Concept of Free and Open Source Software @ Wikiocean:
- The source code is freely available, publicly modifiable and flexible. The model puts control in the hands of users in terms of development and user licensing is cheaper than the traditional proprietary software model.
- Having anchored itself within the infrastructure stack, free and open source is starting to break into the world of business applications and customer relationship management is an early target.
- Continuing in the free and open source tradition, as an end user, you are not locked into either deployment option. You can move from one environment to the other seamlessly, offering greater flexibility as your business matures, your need to integrate, grows or outsourcing IT services becomes a more viable option.
- At the time of seeding Wikiocean we believed that free and open source has something to offer SME's with specialized business applications needs specially in India where many times international practices do not work.We were certain that free and open source's flexibility itself would lead to business solutions.
